Rules of the Nature Preserve
1. Clean up after yourselves and remove any litter you see to keep the
Nature Preserve beautiful and free of the hazards to wildlife that some
litter can create. Stick a plastic bag in your pocket in case you need
it.
2. Keep your dogs on a leash. Dogs may kill or harass wildlife, annoy
other people and destroy habitats by digging up burrows and disturbing
nests. Leashes protect your dog from other dogs, wildlife
defenses (such as porcupine quills), and people who don't like dogs.
3. Clean up after your dog. Their feces add bacteria and parasites to
the water that local wildlife drinks. It is also unpleasant to other
walkers.
4. Do not use bicycles, scooters or motorized vehicles in the Nature
Preserve. The wheels tear up the trails considerably more than shoes do
and cause erosion of the thin topsoil needed to support plant life.
(You are welcome to use skis in the winter while the ground has snow
cover.)
5. Do not build fires. Unattended fires may spread and the dead wood
often used for fires is an important part of the forest's ecology,
providing valuable habitat for a variety of plants, fungi and animals.
6. Do not camp in the Nature Preserve.
