Early Morning Bird Walk “Warm-Up” 6:30 – 7:30
Led by Victor Lamoureux and Jon Weeks
The Naturalists’ Club of
Broome County will be hosting a Bird Song Class led by Dr. Julian Shepherd at
8:00 at the SUNY Nature Preserve. Join
us for an early morning “warm up” walk prior to the Bird Song Class as we look
for some of Nuthatch Hollow’s bird residents.
Two different options for the walk will be available depending on group
size and composition. Light refreshments
will be offered from 7:30 – 7:45 so that those wanting to go to the Bird Song
Class will have time to attend.
Please RSVP to Victor Lamoureux at 770-6897 or vlamoureux@stny.rr.com
Kids’ Pond Safari 10:00
Led by Dylan Horvath and Victor Lamoureux
Parents and children will
have a chance to explore one of Nuthatch Hollow’s ponds and learn about some of
the many creatures that live there.
Bring your child prepared for mud and water as we search for critters
from small bugs to amphibians.
Please RSVP to Victor Lamoureux at 770-6897 or vlamoureux@stny.rr.com
Local Butterflies 1:00
Led by Colleen Wolpert
Butterfly season has arrived
and if the sun is out, the butterflies will show themselves. If not,
there is still a lot to learn. Many sizes and colors occur this time of
year - from small blue ones to big yellow ones. Learn their names and
where they live the rest of the year. They don't go far if their host plants
and plenty of nectar are nearby. Learn which plants are necessary for a
caterpillar to become a butterfly. Be one of the firsts to know new
butterflies in our area.
Please RSVP to Victor Lamoureux at 770-6897 or vlamoureux@stny.rr.com
Stream Salamander and Waterfall Hike 2:00
SUNY Foundation Lands and
Nuthatch Hollow.
Led by Victor Lamoureux
Bunn Hill Creek is a
beautiful, little creek with a fairly intact watershed. Join us on this walk as we explore this area
of SUNY-Foundation
Lands and Nuthatch Hollow
Nature Sanctuary. We will start on SUNY
lands and hike into Nuthatch Hollow.
Along the way we will explore the many beautiful waterfalls, discuss
changes from recent floods, and look for streamside salamanders. Be prepared to walk right in the stream with
old sneakers, “crocs”, or waterproof boots.
Total trip will be less than one mile of walking, but you need to be
prepared for slippery surfaces and a fairly steep climb out of the “hollow” to
the house at Nuthatch. Shuttle service
will be provided back to cars. NOTE: We will not meet at Nuthatch for the
start of this walk. Trip will be
limited to 12-15 participants. In order
to get directions to the meeting site you need to RSVP Victor Lamoureux at vlamoureux@stny.rr.com or 770-6897.

Casual walk-ins welcome throughout the day. A limited number of guides will be available
to answer questions and a slide show of scenery and wildlife of Nuthatch Hollow
will be running throughout the day.
